@miss.gisa asked us how we thought of Coraline’s name.

I remember reading Oprah Winfrey’s magazine “O” when I was pregnant and there was a story in it where the protagonist was called Cora. It reminded me I had always loved names like “Corey”.

We looked it up in our names book and saw there was an extrapolation of it: Coraline. We immediately loved that name and it said it meant, “of the sea”. By the sea is my favourite place.

It’s funny, we haven’t known, or met, anyone else yet called Coraline. We found out about the book and movie “Coraline” after we had named Coraline but we haven’t seen it yet! But a friend did give Coraline a copy of the book when she was born as a present.

We love her name. For a long time when I was pregnant we thought we would call Coraline “Brooke”. We had narrowed it down to three names: Inesa, Brooke and Coraline. We knew Coraline was her name after she was born (we pronounce it Coraleen).
