Areas to improve for inclusion

I’ve joined a group of mums to answer a Monday question.

Today’s question is, “Which areas still need improving so that our family member with special educational needs can be fully included?”

One area I think is really interesting is terminology. I know, as Coraline’s mum, I have learned a lot about terminology and the importance of it. The words you choose can have so much meaning. For example in prenatal testing the use of the word “chance of...” instead of “risk of...” The words you choose actually contribute to how you feel.

I think it’s a fascinating conversation to have and, personally, I would welcome, and love it, if people asked me, “talk to me about terminology and what you’ve learned through parenting Coraline”.
